Leave the city lights behind and head into the Arctic night in search of the Northern Lights. This guided small-group experience starts in Narvik, surrounded by fjords, mountains and vast areas with very little light pollution. There is no fixed route. Each evening is planned around the latest weather conditions, cloud cover and aurora activity.

Depending on the conditions, the journey may take you deep into the fjords and valleys surrounding Narvik, into the mountains or across the border into Swedish Lapland. The goal is to find the clearest skies and give you the best possible conditions for experiencing the Aurora Borealis. Along the way, there is time to enjoy the Arctic night, with warm drinks, snacks, local stories and photography support from your guide.

Every night is different, and seeing the Northern Lights can never be guaranteed. The changing conditions are part of experiencing one of nature’s most spectacular phenomena.

Are the Northern Lights guaranteed?

No. The Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon and can never be guaranteed. The guides monitor current weather, cloud cover and aurora forecasts and adapt the route to find the best available conditions for the evening.

Where will we go?

There is no fixed route. Depending on the conditions, you may travel along the fjords around Narvik, into inland valleys and mountain areas or across the border into Swedish Lapland. This flexibility gives the guides a much larger area in which to search for clear skies.

Why is Narvik a good place to see the Northern Lights?

Narvik is located above the Arctic Circle and surrounded by fjords, mountains and large areas away from artificial light. Its location close to the Swedish border also gives the guides access to different weather conditions within one evening.

Coastal Northern Norway and inland Swedish Lapland can experience very different cloud conditions, allowing the route to be adapted throughout the evening.

How long does the Northern Lights Hunt last?

The experience normally lasts between 3 and 5 hours. The exact duration and route may vary depending on weather, driving conditions and where the clearest skies are found.

What is included?

Transportation from Narvik, a professional guide, photography support, warm drinks and snacks are included.

Will the guide help me photograph the Northern Lights?

Yes. Photography is an important part of the experience, and the guide can help you capture the Northern Lights and Arctic night. You can bring your own camera or smartphone.

What should I wear?

Arctic nights can be very cold, particularly when spending time outdoors waiting for the Northern Lights. We recommend warm layers, wool closest to the body, an insulated winter jacket, warm trousers, gloves, a hat and winter footwear.

Winter clothing can be rented through Your Horizon if needed, so you can arrive prepared without bringing bulky Arctic clothing in your luggage.

What happens if the weather is bad?

Cloud cover along the Norwegian coast does not necessarily mean poor conditions everywhere. The guides monitor conditions across a wide area and can change the route accordingly. In some cases, weather conditions may make it difficult to see the Northern Lights.
